What about cancer and belly fat?

If you are into the science: Worried about cancer and belly fat? Me too! Here's an explanation on how consuming soy compares to eating meat from one of my favorite researchers, Dr Michael Greger. (Warning, his info may really change your thinking and your eating!!)  

The weight loss program I'm using and coaching with uses Medifast Products which are soy based.  This is one of the reasons the "5&1" Program is so effective. The soy actually prevents fat uptake from the foods we eat and can prevent and decrease belly fat. I really love reading the studies and increasing my confidence on how foods work in the body!

In answer to your question last week about how this summer is different since taking off the excess pounds, I wouldn't have traveled like I have this year. Israel and Jordan, California, Ireland, Wales, Scotland, England, and now Fiji and Australia. I have been able to do all the activities, even keeping up with teenagers! Not bad for 69 plus! Did all the above and worked three part time jobs. I thank the Lord for all of His provision of the above.
 
Well over a year later, maybe even almost 2, I am ready to do this! I have had many obstacles, good and bad, that have kept me from focusing on my health but now is the time. Fill me in on how things are running these days and I will get on the site and place my first renewal order for food and goodies.  
 
Oh Dear! I stepped on the scale ... ahhhh ... back on program and love that "fat-burn" feeling, energy and results!!  Down three pounds so far, back on track!!!

What's a Structural Tension Chart?

I use the Structural Tension Chart method daily!  Dr Andersen describes it in his books - if you don't have his materials, let me know and I can help you decide which one to get.

Robert Fritz, Dr A's colleague and mentor, introduced us to the technique of making and using a Structural Tension Chart to propel us forward towards goals with systematic ease.  Here's an example my friend, Susan, sent me of how she is using a Structural Tension Chart to help her focus on what matters most for a family picnic.

At the top, you'll find Susan's "Vision."  This is the reality she intends to create.  At the bottom you will find her "Current Reality" ... this is where she recorded what she was feeling in her darker moments of early stress and worry.  In the middle are the little "Baby Steps" that she will use to help her keep her eye on the prize - to help her stay focused on the Vision and the reality she intends to create!

Notice that the structure reads from bottom to top ... all the energy belongs at the top.  It's important to acknowledge the "Current Reality" at the bottom but put NO Energy here! All the energy goes into building and supporting the Vision!  The Baby Steps should all be doable, small, simple, easy actions that are all directed towards the creating the Vision.  We can add more as the day goes by.  By the way, this is just one example of how the Structural Tension Chart can be used.

Susan's Intention & Vision is to:
Radiate happiness, trust, and joyfulness
Infuse every interaction with kindness
Build wonderful memories
Have plenty of food and games

Baby Steps:
  • Choose comfortable clothing.
  • Arrive early and prepared
  • Be lovingly detached
  • Have an "escape route" planned
  • Clear my mind & heart of old resentments  
  • Avoid being drawn into criticism and gossip
  • Remember that it's ok that I am not perfect, look for the shining light in everyone 
  • Spend time sitting at the level of the little ones to be available, attentive & playful 
  • Keep a safe distance from chips, dips & desserts, alcohol and other poisons 
  • Plan a "re-entry" strategy or way to be of service that allows me to relax.
Current Reality:
I'm aware that I talk too much and listen too little ...
I know I hurt my cousin's feelings last time we met.
Feelings of inadequacy are in abundance
I'm feeling rushed, under-appreciated, irritated with myself
Missing my grandmother ... know that I'll never be able to fill her shoes

Failure IS an Option!

I hate to fail ... but we've all done it a million times ...
On the other hand, I love getting back up, resetting my compass, and feeling the resilience, the bounce, as I go for it again!

Currently, we've added a new puppy to our household ... he "fails" to make it up the steps repeatedly but that doesn't seem to cause him any unhappiness.  In fact, each time he "fails," he gives a bark and goes at it again.  I'm focusing on being like the puppy, setting my sights on what I want, and going for it every day! 

This is an excerpt from Barry Motz's book, Bounce:
Failure thus can be viewed as an escape hatch for each step. Finding out what doesn’t work is as important as finding out what does — and there is no doubt that failure teaches us what doesn’t work. When we fail, we have eliminated at least one of the possibilities. Failure actually can be very cleansing. It gives us the ability to start anew with a modified or entirely new direction or outlook that has a new opportunity (and probability) for success. The moment we jettison what happened, we have a fresh chance to succeed (or to fail). We can get moving once again and begin a new streak.
