Exercise anyone? Try dancing!

Exercise ... it's a new word because, in the "Good Old Days" we were are working so hard to chase food, fetch water, build and repair shelter, and run from predators that there was no need for additional premeditated exercise!

Now for the trick Question: 
What's the best form of exercise for you?
Answer: 
One that you'll do and enjoy!

My exercise goal is to dance twice a week ... Check out this couple doing the Swing ... they look like they are having so much fun and using every muscle group! What are your goals??? Are we having fun yet???

Saturday's Check-in Reminder!

Ten Reasons NOT to call me ...

There are lots of reasons to put off starting the Take Shape for Life Program ...
1. It costs too much ... I can spend $80 per week at the grocery store and get the same results.
2. It's too complicated and not convenient ... opening a bar or making a shake is much harder than getting in my car and driving through a fast-food restaurant.
3. My friends will think I'm weird ... bad health is contagious and I'm in good company.
4. I've tried before and failed ... this is how I felt about learning to walk, riding a bike, and driving a car.
5. What you are doing right now is working - you are melting off 1-3 pounds of excess fat each week with ease.
6. Your clothes are getting too lose, pants are getting longer, and you have to buy smaller sizes but hesitate because you know that smaller size will be too big in another month.
7. Your cravings are gone and you aren't afraid to go to parties and picnics.
8. You love how you look and feel in your swim suit.
9. All your friends are successful in reaching their health goals and you've learned that good health is contagious.
10. Your doctor is amazed at your health improvement, has taken you off three medications, and is encouraging you to keep doing what you are doing.

Obviously, I DO want to hear from you! I love hearing about struggles AND successes! I want to know what's working, not working, and what your goals and dreams are! Don't hesitate anylonger, give me a call!!!

Recipe for Chicken Divan without lots of Mayo!

This just in from one of my favorite Coaches, Thanks Wendy!

Switching up old favorites with a healthy twist!  
Did you know you can email nutritionsupport@tsfl.com to get help making your favorite meals into lean and green compliant recipes???  We have such a wonderful support system!!!  What is your favorite recipe that you have been missing? 

Chicken Divan (one of my childhood favorites without all the mayo!)
Makes 8 servings
Per serving
1 Leaner protein
3 vegetables
½ fat serving

22 oz of cooked chicken chopped *I used store bought rotisserie
16 oz of mozzarella cheese grated
8 cups raw broccoli...
4 cups of raw cauliflower
2 Tablespoons Mayo
1/2 cup of plain Greek yogurt
1/3 cup chicken broth *I stewed 2 of the chickens to make the broth probably too fatty for program? – you can reduce the fat by chilling the broth and skimming the fat off the top.

Steam the broccoli and cauliflower separately
Mix mayo, yogurt, broth and cauliflower in blender until smooth
in a large bowl, stir together 1/2 of the cheese, all chicken, all broccoli and the cauliflower mix.
Push into large rectangle baking pan and top with remaining cheese.
bake at 350 for 30-46 min until cheese starts to brown and it bubbles in the middle. 
Enjoy!!!

Defining Success!

Good morning Take Shapers!
The sunshine coming through my window this morning is such a welcomed reminder of Spring, renewal, and rebirth ... I hope your week on program has gone well and that you are energized for the weeks ahead!

Want a sandwich? I saw a facebook post from a client who was craving a sandwich ... check out this no carb "mock bread" recipe! Tell me how you use it!

Last week I suggested that you share how you define success ... Here's one of my favorite answers:
Success on 'Program' means, taking good care of myself wherever I am ... in fat-burning and weight loss, or transition and maintenance, The Take Shape for Life Program designed by Dr Andersen, has given me the tools I needed to get to a healthy weight and develop habits and stragegies for feeling better and better over the past two years. Success began when I thought I was just starting on a new 'diet.' I was delighted to discover that TSFL offers much more! Thank you for being my coach! Thank you for insisting I get at least one of Dr A's books and tap into the Support Calls. I love the 5&1 Medifast meal plan and the focus on optimal health for a life time of awareness and well-being. I love the entire BESLIM philosophy! I love that becoming a healthier person hasn't been 'work' ... it's been playful, easy, and sustainable!

Another favorite quote for one of our coaches:
"I'm so proud of my Dad! He's under 300 pounds for the first time in years! His doctor is amazed at his weight loss and positive lab results! My dad is so much more cheerful ... none of us (including himself) realized how much pain he'd been in from carrying around so much excess weight!!

This week, think about how you can gently and authentically share what you've learned. How many friends and family members, neighbors and co-workers would benefit from dropping the burden of fat they are carrying? How many would feel better by getting on the 5&1, adopting the Habits of Health, and having access to the complimentary services of a Health Coach? Between us, we can have a positive impact on the experience an lives of those we care about. We have the potential to decrease depression, medication needs, lost productivity, worry, and pain.

C is for Carrots and Cancer Prevention …

C is for Carrots and Cancer Prevention!
Carrots are one of the top cancer-fighting foods, along with other yummy vegetables like broccoli, cabbage, and cauliflower according to the World Cancer Research Fund.  Carrots are a wonderful food source of nutrients that reduce the incidence of stroke, heart disease, and eye disease.  

Though we forgo carrots, because of their sweetness while we are following the 5&1 Plan during the weight loss phase, carrots are welcomed back as we transition and move into maintenance. They are tasty and good for us raw, roasted, steamed, boiled, bakes, and incorporated into many dishes!

What Support Do You Need Right Now?

Question for the Week:
What kind of support do you need right now?

When Greg and I started Take Shape five+ years ago, neither of us needed very much "support" once we were in fat-burning and the weight started melting off ... Here's what we did need:
  • An additional cheerleader to share our excitement with
  • Assistance when friends or family inadvertently tried to sabotage our efforts
  • Assistance when friends wanted to get started
  • Encouragement when we were part way to our goals and had lost sight of the "finish line" 
  • Guidance as we transitioned and got into maintenance
  • Help in defining "Success"
When striving for sustainable change, "Success" has to be defined ... if success is measured only by the number of pounds of fat we burned through, well, that was easy!!!  The excess fat came off steadily once we were on Program and in fat-burning. 

The difficulty started when we had not understood the need to solidify new, healthy habits. The difficulty came when, though my body was thin, my mind still functioned, saw, thought, and spoke like my old chubby self ... I still saw thunder thighs. I still said disparaging things about body and had yet to deal with some food hoarding behaviors!

This is where your coach comes in ... this is when you need to call me, 503-313-4820!

Thank you for the newsletters each week.  They are helpful!  I am excited that I am down 24 lbs in 6 weeks!  I sorted my closet and was able to make a large pile of too big clothes to donate.  Woo hoo!  I really did want to pinch myself.  
 
"The challenging part of this weigh loss journey is realizing I have a major food addiction. I want to turn to food all day long.  Not being able to has been a struggle and I have had to learn new ways to redirect myself.  I recently read about Phillip Seymour Hoffman and his heroin addiction and I was feeling all sorts of pity for him.  Then I realized that obesity is the number 1 killer, not drugs!  Yikes!  I don't want to contribute to the obesity epidemic anymore.  I am going to keep going! 
 
I have been at this weight before to only give up and to regain it back.  But not this time.  I am at a whole new level of awareness and commitment.  Thank you for being there for me.  You hold me accountable even if I don't talk to you every week.  I know you are cheering for me and you have seen people lose the weight to keep it off.  Just knowing it is possible, is motivating.
