Monday's Note, May 20th

Good Morning,
Congratulations on all the baby steps towards health that you took last week!!

This month I've been focusing on the tools we have available to help us on this journey. Down 1 more pound.  Went shopping had to buy a smaller size, this is so exciting.

I am starting next 30 days with Dr A.  Really enjoyed first 30 days.

I have put everyone else first, even my business and now ... its time to focus on me for a few minutes out of every day.  I don't have time to sit down and eat 6 meals a day with the constant running around ... (TSFL) fits with my on the go lifestyle ... if I'm not healthy then I can't take care of all of my duties.

 It was so hot (on our vacation) but my thighs didn't rub together when I walked! Amazing!

This was the first time i wasn't afraid to see an old friend from high school when visiting my home town

I have such freedom!!!

Memorial Day - and I can hear my Dad's voice ...

Memorial Day has me thinking about my dad ... 
I can still hear his voice as he advises me to, "Flat get it done!"
Dad didn't say much sometimes and when he did, I listened. He loved us, he loved the Marine Corps, and he encouraged us to always be the best we could be. After he retired from 22 years of military service, he was 39 and became an entrepreneur.  I benefited from his determination to provide each of us five kids with the support, tools, and integrity necessary to go out and make a difference. No pity parties allowed, just "Flat get it done!"  I am so grateful.

So, here we go!  It's another week and I'm looking forward to your check-ins and catch me ups!!!

Happy Mother's Day!

It's Mother's Day as I write this, and we have so much to be grateful for ...  We have our first great-grand baby - this is too hard to believe, but oh so fun!!! 

Tools to Use: 
Dr Andersen has shed new light on how obesity has become so common place and what to do about it. You can go to his site and sign up for his "30 Day Challenge" which will take you quickly through the first part of Dr A's Habits of HealthThese first four chapters focus on preparing for the journey and suggest that we:
  • Look at the "Habits of Dis-ease" 
  • Learn to "Stop, Challenge, and Choose" 
  • Make a distinction between "Problem Solving vs Desired Outcome"

I have been thinking that it is ridiculous to hold onto size XL, 1X and 2X clothes when I will not to that size ever again ... I've been terrified to let go of those habits and that comfort zone...  But I am becoming a new person.  I just needed to trust myself enough to let go forever.  Why is that so hard to do?

Good Grub

After visiting with a nephew who recently returned from a trip to Thailand, I got to thinking about a radio interview I heard on NPR last week about eatable insects. I have to ask the question: Shouldn't we be hearing more from followers of  "Paleo" diets about incorporating various insects into their diets?

The "caveman diet," as it is called, is based on an understanding that we should be eating more like our cave dwelling ancestors.  The entomologist on "Science Friday" has found that the diet of ancient man consisted of a lot of insects which are both easy to catch and plentiful.  Picture this: "Coming soon, the new Paleo Restaurant: Good Grub."

I believe that we all have to discover what types of food works best for us.  Going to the extremes in search for the perfect diet does not ensure health.  Dr Andersen in his book, Dr A's Habits of Health, shows us a method of food consumption that is both moderate and effective.  It includes sections that deal with most kinds of food preferences.  Dr Andersen is honest and shows you how to adopt a healthy eating plan even if you never purchase the Medifast meal replacements that he recommends for safe effective weight loss.

Personal Development and Learning to Fly



Learning to fly above the crowd is a process. Sometimes it is a brand new thought or perhaps it is something you have heard before put in a way that you now hear.  As the journey of life moves on, you have grown and changed.  You may now ready and able to incorporate new ways of thinking and concepts  into your life.  You are ready to soar.



Whatever the situation, here is a recent blog on the 10 Best Personal Development Books from Robin Sharma.  Some books I have read, others I have heard about and a couple of them are new to me.  If you are the type of person who looks at this and says, "great, another stack of books to sit on my night stand," pick out one that appeals to you and start with that.  If you are a trucker or spend a lot of time on the road, see if you can pick that title up on audio and listen to it on the road.

The first book on the list, Jonathan Livingston Seagull, (available on audio.) is one that I have not read for forty years but plan to enjoy again.  It is an easy read and makes you feel good.  Remember, spread your wings and fly high. “You have the freedom to be yourself, your true self, here and now, and nothing can stand in your way" Let me know about your favorites.

Doubling the number of Certified Health Coaches this month!

This is sooooo thrilling!
We have five team members taking the TSFL Certification Exam through Villanova University this weekend! 


Kathryn and Gary started last night and wrote, "We did 100 questions last night (and) will do the rest tonight. We had so much fun - we were laughing the whole time. Some of the options were hilarious ... we are so excited about the resources we have available. Wow! Feeling thankful and excited!"

What a joy it is to cheer each of these incredible coaches on towards physical, mental, and financial health. The freedom to engage, be helpful, and be appreciated is exhilarating! So many people are finding hope and getting healthy because of their individual and collective efforts - We are blown away and never imagined "working" could be this fun!

Create Yourself


Today I would like to share this section from Robert Fritz's blog to help clear the path in order to "create a life you love." Using the section in Dr Andersen's Habits of Health, Robert Fritz diagrams the process of creating "Structural Tension" to create health in your life. This process of using structural tension works in just about any situation.

"If you have an unwanted belief about yourself, don’t try to change it. Instead, simply recognize it. Don’t hide it from yourself. The ideal – belief – reality conflict is only made possible because you are trying to hide your opinion of yourself from yourself. The moment you stop trying to live up to the ideal, and understand what you really think about yourself, the better.
This is not a matter of begrudgingly admitting what you think. It is also not trying to be okay with it. It is just acknowledging a fact: you think what you think.
In our age of compulsory high self-esteem, it might not have occurred to you that it’s okay to have a less than wonderful opinion about yourself. But, have the opinion you have, and here’s the killer point, it doesn’t matter a bit. What is important is not what you think about yourself, but how well you create the life you want. Your true aspirations and values are independent of how you see yourself.
Contrary to the impression you absorbed growing up, what you think about yourself has nothing to do with how well you can learn to create a life you love."
