Check out "Portion Size Me" a 10 year old's journey to a healthier family!

I just picked up a delightful book, Portion Size Me. It's the story by a 10 year old kid, Marshall, and his mother, Alexandria Reid. Marshall said he was, "tired of being picked on, unhappy with his appearance, and feeling down on himself. He decided to change his lifestyle and demanded that his family help him along the way. His plan was simple. For 31 days, Marshall made a conscious decision about every piece of food he put into his body.

"An idea was born. For entire month, the Reids as a family, 'portion sized' themselves."

It's a great story and I think you'll really enjoy it. I love how the book is laid out - it's very easy to follow.  Each day is given a two page spread with a place for Marshall's thoughts, his mother's experiences, two recipes, a fun food fact, and note about their daily YouTude Videos. In the back, they give us examples for 10 healthy breakfasts, lunches, and dinners.

During this 31 day journey, the Reid family learned how to shop and cook together, read the ingredients of the foods they bought and figure out what they really needed. They rediscovered the joy and ease of cooking. They also gradually added more activity to their lives and went on to continue their journey towards optimal health. It's a splendid little read and website that contributes to the wealth of knowledge and encouragement needed to address and arrest the killer tsunami of obesity and malnutrition in our country.

I'd love to hear your thoughts!  How is following the "5&1 Program" helping you reset your taste buds, eating habits, and body size? What are you learning daily to help you lose your excess weight and build a sustainable path for a healthier you???
