Time Travel Anyone?

Craig has more data for you Andy ... Time travel is real!!!
Results may vary but smiles don't.
I think you'll like this blog from Andy:

Don't Laugh, Time Travel is PossiblePlease, as you read this blog today, I only ask that you keep an open mind. I want you to remember that great scientists throughout time have been ridiculed for their discoveries and only after death have they be proven true.

Recently I have only been able to travel back a few months at a time but I sense of breakthrough will be coming and I will be able to travel back years into the past.

At the moment, this experiment in time travel only happens for brief moments. Each morning after rising and taking care of some daily chores, I wander into my sanctuary, my vault of solitude and step onto my time machine. Each day I have been traveling back in time. Today, I traveled to September 16, 2012. Yesterday it was September 14. It appears for brief moments I can go back in time to revisit the past.

This place of sanctuary is important because it seems that once I leave and share my discoveries, the three women of my house like to scoff at me, scoff as poor Galileo was once ridiculed.

Dad, they point out, "Way to go, you are losing weight but that scale is not a time machine!"

I try to differ, explaining that they are wrong. I have data. Each day over the last months and years I have taken the information that the scale has given and I have recorded it. And now, I am revisiting the past, seeing readings that were present in the past, evidence of time travel. I haven't recorded all my data but there are other moments in the day when time traveling occurs, I remember moments of long ago, walking, exercising, and even jogging and they are happening again.

Just you watch, tomorrow I will be revisiting another day in the past and this will continue. Best of all, in a few months I will make a breakthrough and will be going back decades in time. Yes, you may all scoff at me but just you wait. This summer when I step on the scale and hit my goal weight, it will be like traveling back 30 years, and while some of you may have decided to join me, others will be on the sidelines wishing you hadn't scoffed and ridiculed.

Just a warning. Time travel is possible.

Monday's Note, 02-25-13

Results vary but smiles don't!
Good Morning and Happy Monday!
As we head into March and begin to look forward to Spring, keep your focus on the "Results you Intend to Create."  Making and using a "Structural Tension Chart" is really helpful because, the path to "Success" is not straight!

Check out this short blog: Start to Finish: Not So Straight.  If you've done a Structural Tension Chart, will you share?  If not, let me know your goals and we can make one together.  I've noted mine at the end of this note.

Upcoming Events:
Dan Bell (who is amazing!) is giving a presentation called, "Exploring Optimal Health with Take Shape for Life."
It's on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 7:00 pm PST.
Amazing Quotes this week:
My cousin noticed!  I told her "I'm working c a Health Coach" and she asked if you could call her ... here's her number ... I can't wait for her to start too!

I'm enjoying the program. the good thing is I can take these packets to work and mix it right there even if I'm waiting for a birth!

I lost 4 pounds this week.  I am down to 205!  I have been doodling on my before and after pic.  Before I had high blood pressure, acid reflux, sleep apnea.  I still have sleep apnea but the high bp and acid reflux are gone.  I am keeping it up.  On my way to losing 50 pounds and being in "One-derland!"  Thanks for cheering me on.

Monday morning at 248, the 250 goal has been passed.

I just got home from and opted not to stop for fast food for dinner!!!

Enjoy the photo of Emily and her family!! We are so happy for all of them ... they've build a network of support and have gained many years of healthier life!!!

The results that I'm after are positive relationships, momentum towards ever improving health, happiness, and clarity. You know you're in the right place when you let the Program work for you, can see where you are going and are using the tools effectively to get you there.  Here's what Dr Andersen has to say:
Take Shape for life offers a whole new approach to weight loss based on creating health with three componenets - a Health Coach, the Medifast 5&1 Plan, and the Habits of Health System.  These three combined provide the foundation and log-term support that can help clients down the path to optimal health.  Losing weight is just the first the first step.  We surround our clients with a bio-network of support and help them to adopt healthy habits that can last a lifetime.

Have a Great Week!!!

Monday Check-in with Haiku ...

From Dr Shairo's Picture Perfect book
Good Morning and Happy President's Day!

Dr Andersen is offering a 30 Day Challenge.  The focus is on shifting our focus and steadily improving our choices.  Click on 30 Day Challenge and accept!  Go for it!  Remember, the baby steps will help you get where you want to go.  They will help you digest and internalize the info in the Program materials covered in Dr A's Habits of Health so that you feel and look better for a life time.

Speaking of choices, check out the photos comparing the two meals and the one with the innocent looking muffin ... who knew that "in the old days" when I thought I was doing myself a favor by eating a bran muffin, I could have eaten for hours and been much more satisfied.  Forgoing fruits, fat and carb laden breads while on the 5&1 was hard at first.  Now, in maintenance, and have reintroduced these food sources, we've continue to assess our choices, strengthen our habits and keep our focus on gaining health for a life time.  Hummmm, no wonder diets fail!  Thank you for being on the path to wellness with us!

Last week, I invited you to express your playful side ... what did you come up with?  What did you do that made you smile this past week?  Did you doodle? Dance? Draw? Sing???

One thing I did was entertain a little poetry ... Haiku is a traditional form of Japanese poetry, with a 17-syllable verse form consisting of three metrical units of 5, 7, and 5 syllables.  Here are four Haiku Poems to get you started for this week:

Why do I want it?
Does it work? Can I do it?
Will you help me now?
(by Yours Truly)

Cheeseburger so kind.
It's tasty, warm and happy.
Is my butt that big?
(by ???)

There is Weight Loss Happening
Jealousy Abounds
Drop ‘Em Like You Drop The Pounds.
(by Saffie Kallon)

Celery and dip
Over my lips. A clean crunch.
Like Eating Water
(by Janice Taylor)

Favorite Quotes:

I lost 2 pounds this week just by having smaller snacks and eating every couple hours!
It is so nice to feel accountable to my family. Knowing they are cheering for me helps me stay on track!
I am back on program ... Thank Goodness!!!
I now have the tools to help my loved one find health!
This has changed my life!  I'm one of Those!  I wished I'd known 10 yrs ago, Its all about metabolism, feeding the furnace ... such a transformation.  I don't take compliments well - but I can really soak it all in - thank you!

Things are going so much better!!  I did some initial journaling and have been logging my wins. As I type this I am in an all-morning meeting sitting next to a bunch of cupcakes that I have not and will not eat! :). I expect to continue journaling tomorrow night and through the weekend.

Open the door of hope to one person today ... what if you don't?  What if they think getting on program it's too expensive, too hard, or will take too long?  Take Shape for Life doesn't involve pills, potions, or a series of shots ... it's a plan, a sustainable program, a paradigm shift ... simple though not always easy ... it feels magical once it begins and the routine actions become habits replacing old behaviors, and patterns of thinking.

If you haven't checked in recently, give me an update!
Want a little more inspiration?  Check out my blogs this week ... start with Nursing Mom Sheds Baby Weight.  And, have a great, life enriching week ... it's your choice!!

We Want: Autonomy, Mastery, and Purpose

I've been reading DRiVE: The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us by Daniel Pink.  I blogged about it recently in my post on Carrots and Sticks.  Though the main focus in Drive is a look at how managers can improve moral, loyalty, and productivity of employees, I found the information very helpful on a personal level.

Pink points out that regardless of the relationship, employee/employer, child/parent, student/teacher, or team member/business leader, each of us experiences more creativity, happiness and productivity when three basic elements are satisfied.  We each want, need, and thrive when we have "Autonomy, Mastery, and Purpose."

Think of a toddler approaching a set of steps.  He is driven internally to attempt the climb over and over again regardless of the bumps and setbacks along the way.  As a toddler, we shun help and interference, seek the next step and the next, and just know we are doing the right thing!!!

As Health Coaches, our clients are why we exist!  We thrive on their drive for success ... Give some thought to these concepts ... Autonomy, Mastery, and Purpose.  How do you use them personally to perfect your craft?  How do you see your clients expressing these core needs?

This is more evidence that ours is not a yo-yo game of losing weight. We are focused on helping each person gain and sustain health in every way!  Share your story!!!

And the Seed Splits ...

Each of us is in a constant process of change, revision and growth. Enjoy this poem by a dear friend (and daughter) ... I am in awe of the process that each of us is going through.  Thank you for choosing us as companions on your journey to reclaim your health!  Polly.

In the Time of Germination

By Andrea Schmidt
4 February 2013

Does the seed feel it when it splits
Does it know that it is splitting
Is it wise to the divide
Aware of what’s happening inside

Is it conscious of its reality
Aware of its capacity
Know just who it’s gonna be
Oh why all this urgency

A seed asleep in hibernation
Until begins a strong pulsation
All its life a culmination
In the time of germination

Is it afraid to die a husk
Discard the shell of former self
Release the peeling outer hull
Surrender to the greater pull

Is there faith in the exchange
A death for life of greater range
Is it a willing sacrifice
A surrender true at any price

A sea of hormones surging
Incessant pulsing tearing throbbing
Seam pulls apart oh so piercing
A great releasing of an offspring

Does the seed feel it when it splits
Does it know that it is splitting

Nursing Mom sheds Baby Weight!

Our individualized program for Nursing Moms is so simple and effective at helping busy moms lose the baby weight, take care of themselves, and get healthy.

Here is what Angela had to say about her journey as she reclaimed her shape and health:

"After my 3rd baby was born I found myself still wearing maternity clothes 9 months later. I started on the Nursing Moms program and lost 34 lbs in 3 1/2 months and I now wear a size 2-4. What I love most is how I feel. I have no more pain in my back, joints, or my feet and I can out run my 20 year old brother!"

Be a little Silly!

Goal setting may sound a little dry ...  Perhaps it's been frustrating and less than helpful in the past. However, knowing where you want to go and what results you intend to create, will propel you forward. Otherwise, we yo-yo, go in circles and end up with empty wishes and faded dreams.

Here's Dr Andersen's note on Goal Setting:
Whether your goal is to reach a healthy weight, exercise more, find fulfilling work, or something else, it's critical to envision that goal. That means you'll need to create a vivid picture of something that hasn't yet occurred. Click here to learn about SMART goals.
To make a vivid picture, to make your target tangible and real, be a little playful.  I've made collages many times but the doodles that I've done, songs I've sung, and odes I've written are just as valuable. (I wrote one to a plate of chocolate chip cookies last year) It's ok to be silly and a little vulnerable.  Remember, it's not just about how to lose weight ... We all want vibrant, sustainable health and we are all in this together!

Call me, I can help!

21 Habits of Happy People

                       21 Habits of Happy People

“Happiness is a habit – cultivate it.” ~ Elbert Hubbar

Happiness is one aspiration all people share. No one wants to be sad and depressed.
We’ve all seen people who are always happy – even amidst agonizing life trials. I’m not saying happy people don’t feel grief, sorrow or sadness; they just don’t let it overtake their life. The following are 21 things happy people make a habit of doing ... Share what you do to keep you happiness alive and well!
1. Appreciate Life
Be thankful that you woke up alive each morning. Develop a childlike sense of wonder towards life. Focus on the beauty of every living thing. Make the most of each day. Don’t take anything for granted. Don’t sweat the small stuff.
2. Choose Friends Wisely
Surround yourself with happy, positive people who share your values and goals. Friends that have the same ethics as you will encourage you to achieve your dreams. They help you to feel good about yourself. They are there to lend a helping hand when needed.
3. Be Considerate
Accept others for who they are as well as where they are in life. Respect them for who they are. Touch them with a kind and generous spirit. Help when you are able, without trying to change the other person. Try to brighten the day of everyone you come into contact with.
4. Learn Continuously
Keep up to date with the latest news regarding your career and hobbies. Try new and daring things that has sparked your interest – such as dancing, skiing, surfing or sky-diving.
5. Creative Problem Solving
Don’t wallow in self-pity. As soon as you face a challenge get busy finding a solution. Don’t let the set backs affect your mood, instead see each new obstacle you face as an opportunity to make a positive change. Learn to trust your gut instincts – it’s almost always right.
6. Do What They Love
Some statistics show that 80% of people dislike their jobs! No wonder there’s so many unhappy people running around. We spend a great deal of our life working. Choose a career that you enjoy – the extra money of a job you detest isn’t worth it. Make time to enjoy your hobbies and pursue special interests.
7. Enjoy Life
Take the time to see the beauty around you. There’s more to life than work. Take time to smell the roses, watch a sunset or sunrise with a loved one, take a walk along the seashore, hike in the woods etc. Learn to live in the present moment and cherish it. Don’t live in the past or the future.
8. Laugh
Don’t take yourself – or life to seriously. You can find humor in just about any situation. Laugh at yourself – no one’s perfect. When appropriate laugh and make light of the circumstances. (Naturally there are times that you should be serious as it would be improper to laugh.)
9. Forgive
Holding a grudge will hurt no one but you. Forgive others for your own peace of mind. When you make a mistake – own up to it – learn from it – and FORGIVE yourself.
10. Gratitude
Develop an attitude of gratitude. Count your blessings; All of them – even the things that seem trivial. Be grateful for your home, your work and most importantly your family and friends. Take the time to tell them that you are happy they are in your life.
11. Invest in Relationships
Always make sure your loved ones know you love them even in times of conflict. Nurture and grow your relationships with your family and friends by making the time to spend with them. Don’t break your promises to them. Be supportive.
12. Keep Their Word
Honesty is the best policy. Every action and decision you make should be based on honesty. Be honest with yourself and with your loved ones.
13. Meditate
Meditation gives your very active brain a rest. When it’s rested you will have more energy and function at a higher level. Types of meditation include yoga, hypnosis, relaxation tapes, affirmations, visualization or just sitting in complete silence. Find something you enjoy and make the time to practice daily.
14. Mind Their Own Business
Concentrate on creating your life the way you want it. Take care of you and your family. Don’t get overly concerned with what other people are doing or saying. Don’t get caught up with gossip or name calling. Don’t judge. Everyone has a right to live their own life the way they want to – including you.
15. Optimism
See the glass as half full. Find the positive side of any given situation. It’s there – even though it may be hard to find. Know that everything happens for a reason, even though you may never know what the reason is. Steer clear of negative thoughts. If a negative thought creeps in – replace it with a positive thought.
16. Love Unconditionally
Accept others for who they are. You don’t put limitations on your love. Even though you may not always like the actions of your loved ones – you continue to love them.
17. Persistence
Never give up. Face each new challenge with the attitude that it will bring you one step closer to your goal. You will never fail, as long as you never give up. Focus on what you want, learn the required skills, make a plan to succeed and take action. We are always happiest while pursuing something of value to us.
18. Be Proactive
Accept what can not be changed. Happy people don’t waste energy on circumstances beyond their control. Accept your limitations as a human being. Determine how you can take control by creating the outcome you desire – rather than waiting to respond.
19. Self Care
Take care of your mind, body and health. Get regular medical check ups. Eat healthy and work out. Get plenty of rest. Drink lots of water. Exercise your mind by continually energizing it with interesting and exciting challenges.
20. Self Confidence
Don’t try to be someone that you’re not. After all no one likes a phony. Determine who you are in the inside – your own personal likes and dislikes. Be confident in who you are. Do the best you can and don’t second guess yourself.
21. Take Responsibility
Happy people know and understand that they are 100% responsible for their life. They take responsibility for their moods, attitude, thoughts, feelings, actions and words. They are the first to admit when they’ve made a mistake.
Begin today by taking responsibility for your happiness. Work on developing these habits as you own. The more you incorporate the above habits into your daily lifestyle – the happier you will be.
Most of all: BE TRUE TO YOURSELF.

Monday's Client Check-in Note, Feb 4th, 2013

Good Morning!!
I'm looking forward to hearing from you today so call, text, or send me an e-mail.  Give me a quick update on your health journey.  If you aren't on my "Monday Check-in" list, send me an email to be added.

Photo Story:
The photo attached is of a mom and her daughter - they's taken off and kept off a combined total of 130#.  Click here to read more about them.  You'll also find posts this week on:
Establishing the Habits of Health is our goal!
The Take Shape for Life program is so different from any weight loss or "get fit" program available.  The goal with Take Shape is to help each of us immerse in and establish Dr Dr A's Habits of Health.  And to help us do that, Dr A is offering a 30 Day Challenge.  And, like the coaching, it's a free service!

When you sign up for the Challenge, you'll get an email each morning with step by step instructions that follow right along with his text.  Click here to get started.  If you don't have Dr A's book or workbook, you can add them to your next order (they are listed in the shopping menu) or Click Here to read more. There's even a DVD available!

Have you seen the Jan / Feb issue of "Success from Home" magazine?
This entire issue of "Success From Home" featured Take Shape for Life!  The Editor's Note, "Has Obesity Finally Met its Match?" looked at the systematic approach and success that we are having in the battle to reverse America's alarming obesity epidemic.  This issue also looked at the business of coaching and included articles on leadership, achievement, and wellness by industry experts John Maxwell, Tony Jeary, Paul Zane Pilzer, and Amanda Gore.

The magazines are available at Barnes & Noble and Staples and online, Click Here for more info.  I've sent out several of copies and have a few more - let me know, I'll help you get one.

Favorite Quotes this week:
I've watched you and Greg for two years - I'm ready now!

I used Medifast 10 years ago ... I didn't have a coach and used it like a diet.  I'm really appreciating all the support!  I love it that you pick up the phone whenever I call you!!!

The skinny person inside me has been promising to come out for ever and the time never seemed right or the efforts which I made went nowhere.  The sabotage was generated by family activities: a need to get food on the table for the kids, holidays & birthdays, and sometimes the temptations of leftovers, or cooking with my daughter or husband.  The kids don’t join us for many family meals any longer but I still find my diet organized around their pizza’s, requests for chicken and rice (and never vegetables) or Popeye’s – but I really don’t need to plan meals around them anymore.
No question that at age 61 I know if I don’t do this now, When?  And I worry about all the “bad juju” in carrying extra weight whether on my knees, in my arteries, on my heart, etc.  And I’d like to have that skinnier self back!

Thank you for the referrals.  Have a Great Week!!!

McDonald's McRib Sandwich ... not on my watch!

McDonald’s McRib Sandwich a Franken Creation of GMOs, Toxic Ingredients, Banned Ingredients

It’s ‘McRib season’, and thousands across the nation are scrambling to use online websites like the ‘McRib locator‘ to stuff the McDonald’s McRib sandwich down their throats. A sandwich that is not only full of genetically modified ingredients, a medley of toxic fillers and preservatives, but also some ingredients that are actually banned in other nations around the world. But honestly, are you surprised?

The McRib is the result of intensive marketing by McDonald’s. Utilizing the basics of supply and demand through creating scarcity over the McRib by only unleashing the culinary abomination for a fraction of the year that is only known once it is released, McDonald’s fans have been known to ‘hoard’ McRib sandwiches and eat them in extreme excess. It’s even a topic of the popular documentary Super Size Me, where filmmaker Morgan Spurlock (who gorges himself with McDonald’s for 30 days only to find serious health consequences) encounters ‘McRib hunters’ who actually travel the country eating McRib sandwiches.

Related: 3 Fast Food Secret Ingredients

McDonald’s even made McRib fans sign a petition to ‘save the McRib’ online, bringing out a conglomerate of fans to bring back their favorite franken sandwich.

What’s Inside a McDonald’s McRib Sandwich?

But what’s really inside the McRib specifically that makes it such a food abomination? Containing over 70 ingredients, the McRib is full of surprises — including ‘restructured meat’ technology that includes traditionally-discarded animal parts brought together to create a rib-like substance. Here’s some of the disturbing substances found within the McDonald’s McRib sandwich:
A flour-bleaching agent used in yoga mats
Out of the 70 ingredients that make up the ‘pork’ sandwich, a little-known flour-bleaching agent known as azodicarbonamide lies among them. At first glance, this strange ingredient sounds concerning enough to look into. After a little research, you will find that even mainstream media outlets have generated content revealing how azodicarbonamide is actually used in the production of foamed plastics. Foamed plastics like yoga mats and more.

What’s more? In Australia and Europe, the use of azodicarbonamide as a food additive is banned. In Singapore specifically, use of this substance in food can result in a $450,000 fine and 15 years in jail. Thank you McDonald’s for supplying the nation with such healthful ingredients.

‘Restructured Meat’ from Pig Heart, Tongue, Stomach
McDonald’s McRib is famous in some circles for utilizing what’s known as ‘restructured meat’ technology. Since McDonald’s knows you’d never eat a pig heart, tongue, or stomach on your plate, they decided instead to grind up these ingredients and put them into the form of a typical rib. That way, consumers won’t know what they’re putting into their mouths. As the Chicago Mag reported, the innovator of this technology back in 1995 said it best:

“Most people would be extremely unhappy if they were served heart or tongue on a plate… but flaked into a restructured product it loses its identity.Such products as tripe, heart, and scalded stomachs…”

So in other words, it’s not actually a rib. Instead, it’s a combination of unwanted animal scraps processed down in major facilities and ‘restructured’ into the form of a rib. Then, 70 additives, chemicals, fillers, and GMO ingredients later, you have a ‘meat’ product that tastes like ribs.

For a visual representation with a full list, here’s an image summarizing what it calls the ‘McDiabetes McRib’ — complete with GMO indicators (click to enlarge) on link.
