Will I always be on a "Diet?"

Will I always have be on a diet?" 
The answer is Yes! Each of us is already on some type of diet at all times.

Many of us have been on a diet of fast-food, chips, dips, and beer! Without adequate nutrition, we keep seeking, eating and gaining! Our choice of foods every day (good, bad, & ugly) affect our long term health, moods, and productivity.

Life is challenging! Meet Vincent!!

Life is pretty challenging and adding excess weight to the struggle can lead to a lot of physical pain and emotional misery. If you and I can contribute sustainable solutions then we have no excuse for not reaching out in caring, gentle ways ...

Vincent's parents found our program and released 110 lbs together! They introduced their son, Vincent, who suffers from Prader Willy Syndrome, to the Habits of Health! Vincent released 55 lbs, got of several obesity related meds, including a c-Pap machine and improved his health! What a gift his parents shared with him!

Can I stop the Train?

Good Morning Friends and Clients!
I hope your summer has been filled with family fun and sunshine!! We have been on the go like crazy ... which occasionally kicks my critical, self-judgement brain into full gear when I've over indulged or munched too often on easy to grab junk food due to stress or time constraints ... Here's a blog/e-mail note from Rapheal Cushner that really helped me this week.

...You can always stop the train.

What does that mean? No matter how long you've let a negative train of thought run, whether one of critcism, shame, judgment or blame, as you soon as you become aware of the train, you can stop it immediately. That's true if it's been running for minutes, or days.

Here's how: Just look for the last thought you had. Truth is, it's gone. You can't find it.

That's because the nature of thought is different from emotion. While emotions move through the dense physical matter of your body, thoughts are like instantaneous electrical flashes. Just as soon as they arise, they're no longer present.

This looking and not finding creates just enough space for you to maneuver, to decide what happens next. One option is to turn to your body and see if there are lingering feelings that either have been propelling the train, or have resulted from it. If feelings are present, it's a great idea to surf them till you return to a state of expanded presence. This often takes just a minute or so.

Another option is to consciously board a different and more positive train. This could be a train of thought, but it could also be a task, a conversation, or a physical activity that serves your highest good.

The key point is that awareness brings choice. Always. So it's a great practice to be on the lookout for all trains of thought, and to only let them proceed if you want to. It doesn't matter how often you've been laid low by negative trains of thought before, or how seemingly hopeless it's been to avoid their fallout.

Every moment creates a new possibility. Plus, each time you stop a damaging train of thought, it gets easier to do so the next time.

We've almost all heard that old saying, "You can't afford the luxury of a negative thought." Maybe so, but that's only helpful if you know how to stop them.

David's Story to Date!


I love the ease of our program and the results we get to see over and over again! Here's a note from David - an update on his progress:

"I think My story is turning out a little ways from the norm. I am currently only at 30 lbs lost but the change in my overall health (honestly, my body, though I didn't realize it until Jennifer took a pic of me today at the Farmer's Market) ... it's pretty awesome and exciting! 

My last visit to the doctor I had cut my a1c by half, to almost normal range and we were working hard on my cholesterol. Four weeks ago I started cardio and it has really jump started my progress and I am now a "regular" at the gym!

I am on a personal mission to beat diabetes and to help others do the same thing. As I said, I didn't really notice the body change until today when I opened the pic we took at Jan's house in January, and put them side by side. It doesn't look like only 30 lbs. It's a true testament to the fact that the scale won't tell the whole story. In my case, its been a small part of it!"

What about cancer and belly fat?

If you are into the science: Worried about cancer and belly fat? Me too! Here's an explanation on how consuming soy compares to eating meat from one of my favorite researchers, Dr Michael Greger. (Warning, his info may really change your thinking and your eating!!)  

The weight loss program I'm using and coaching with uses Medifast Products which are soy based.  This is one of the reasons the "5&1" Program is so effective. The soy actually prevents fat uptake from the foods we eat and can prevent and decrease belly fat. I really love reading the studies and increasing my confidence on how foods work in the body!

In answer to your question last week about how this summer is different since taking off the excess pounds, I wouldn't have traveled like I have this year. Israel and Jordan, California, Ireland, Wales, Scotland, England, and now Fiji and Australia. I have been able to do all the activities, even keeping up with teenagers! Not bad for 69 plus! Did all the above and worked three part time jobs. I thank the Lord for all of His provision of the above.
 
Well over a year later, maybe even almost 2, I am ready to do this! I have had many obstacles, good and bad, that have kept me from focusing on my health but now is the time. Fill me in on how things are running these days and I will get on the site and place my first renewal order for food and goodies.  
 
Oh Dear! I stepped on the scale ... ahhhh ... back on program and love that "fat-burn" feeling, energy and results!!  Down three pounds so far, back on track!!!

What's a Structural Tension Chart?

I use the Structural Tension Chart method daily!  Dr Andersen describes it in his books - if you don't have his materials, let me know and I can help you decide which one to get.

Robert Fritz, Dr A's colleague and mentor, introduced us to the technique of making and using a Structural Tension Chart to propel us forward towards goals with systematic ease.  Here's an example my friend, Susan, sent me of how she is using a Structural Tension Chart to help her focus on what matters most for a family picnic.

At the top, you'll find Susan's "Vision."  This is the reality she intends to create.  At the bottom you will find her "Current Reality" ... this is where she recorded what she was feeling in her darker moments of early stress and worry.  In the middle are the little "Baby Steps" that she will use to help her keep her eye on the prize - to help her stay focused on the Vision and the reality she intends to create!

Notice that the structure reads from bottom to top ... all the energy belongs at the top.  It's important to acknowledge the "Current Reality" at the bottom but put NO Energy here! All the energy goes into building and supporting the Vision!  The Baby Steps should all be doable, small, simple, easy actions that are all directed towards the creating the Vision.  We can add more as the day goes by.  By the way, this is just one example of how the Structural Tension Chart can be used.

Susan's Intention & Vision is to:
Radiate happiness, trust, and joyfulness
Infuse every interaction with kindness
Build wonderful memories
Have plenty of food and games

Baby Steps:
  • Choose comfortable clothing.
  • Arrive early and prepared
  • Be lovingly detached
  • Have an "escape route" planned
  • Clear my mind & heart of old resentments  
  • Avoid being drawn into criticism and gossip
  • Remember that it's ok that I am not perfect, look for the shining light in everyone 
  • Spend time sitting at the level of the little ones to be available, attentive & playful 
  • Keep a safe distance from chips, dips & desserts, alcohol and other poisons 
  • Plan a "re-entry" strategy or way to be of service that allows me to relax.
Current Reality:
I'm aware that I talk too much and listen too little ...
I know I hurt my cousin's feelings last time we met.
Feelings of inadequacy are in abundance
I'm feeling rushed, under-appreciated, irritated with myself
Missing my grandmother ... know that I'll never be able to fill her shoes
